Bismuth Telluroiodide (BiTeI) Single Crystal – 10mm x 5mm

Xtalsphere offers premium Bismuth Telluroiodide (BiTeI) single crystals, ideal for cutting-edge research in spintronics, topological materials, and thermoelectricity. Our crystals are grown with exceptional precision, providing a reliable platform to explore the unique properties of this fascinating material.

BiTeI is renowned for its giant Rashba effect, where strong spin-orbit coupling leads to a momentum-dependent spin splitting in the electronic bands, even without an external magnetic field. This makes it a pivotal material for developing next-generation spintronic and quantum devices.

Key Features:

  • Dimensions: Approximately 10mm x 5mm, perfect for various experimental setups.
  • Synthetic Purity: >99.995% (4N5), ensuring high material integrity.

BiTeI Crystal Properties:

BiTeI is a layered, polar semiconductor with a band gap typically in the range of 0.3-0.7 eV. Its unique layered structure allows for easy exfoliation into few-layer and monolayer flakes. The material’s non-centrosymmetric structure gives rise to a built-in electric field that drives the large Rashba spin-splitting.

  • Structure Type: Trigonal crystal system, space group P3m1. The structure consists of repeating trilayers of Te-Bi-I, held together by weak van der Waals forces.
  • Electrical Properties: BiTeI is an n-type semiconductor with high electrical conductivity. Its unique electronic band structure, featuring Rashba spin-splitting, makes it an excellent candidate for spintronic applications. Researchers can investigate phenomena like spin-polarized transport and spin-related Hall effects.
